Hillside properties in Encino, high above the San Fernando Valley, have been highly coveted for many decades. Several neighborhoods in Encino house affluent celebrities seeking the breathtaking views and luxury residential homes that the area provides. Encino sits just west of another storied affluent area, Sherman Oaks, on the Ventura Blvd corridor.Encino is also one of the least dense areas in all of Los Angeles with 4,411 people per square mile. The area was first settled by the Spanish Portola expedition in 1769 when they traveled to the San Fernando Valley through the Sepulveda pass. Shortly after, Fray Juan Crespi explored with a Franciscan mission to a native village, what is now Los Encinos.
He named the valley, “The Valley of St. Catherine of Bononia of the Oaks “(El Valle de Santa Catalina de Bononia de Los Encinos).
